It’s easy enough picking ten Pavement songs. What’s trickier is working out where they fit in the pantheon. They wore their influences boldly, and made no secret who they were in thrall to. Oh well, whatever. The popular misconception is that Pavement didn’t try hard. What they actually did was make it look very easy. Start with Slanted And Enchanted, then move on to Wowee Zowee – the obsessive fans’ go-to album.

Surely you’d have to have Summer Babe (Winter Version) in there, no?
“They made it look very easy.” Pavement, the Dimitar Berbatov of rock.
Gotta have ‘Here’ in there, and ‘Summer Babe’. ‘In The Mouth a Desert’ has one of finest intros in rock.
This should surely be in any Pavement top 10: Secret Knowledge Of Backroads
